Reflections
I don’t know about you, but I’ve taken a deep dive into a reflective, contemplative, and at times, insidious melancholy during these monumentally staggering first weeks of 2021.
So much tumult — heart-wrenching domestic terror, apocalyptic loss in the face of Covid, dehumanization in the form of white supremacy.
Where does one begin to unpack these tragic and tumultuous events?
For me, I needed to give myself permission to not “climb out” per see, but to climb back in. Climb through. Listen intently to my soul’s whispers. Take control of my narrative. And most importantly, find others who are doing the same.
That’s why this afternoon at 4:30 ET I’ll be edging towards hope alongside my soul tribe at Reimagine when I tune in to Reflections: A Community Event and Group-Watch of the National Covid Memorial.
The invitation reads—”This afternoon, the incoming Biden/Harris administration arranged a lighting ceremony at the Lincoln Memorial Reflection Pool in remembrance of the 400,00 Americans who have lost their lives to COVID. Astoundingly, this is the first national recognition of all those we have lost to this virus in the United States.”
That final sentence seared my soul when I read it…
FINALLY, our leadership is tending to the unattended undercurrent of grief that consumes our nation.
FINALLY, we are being offered a space to grieve and mourn collectively.
FINALLY, our new incoming administration is holding up the need for “permanent and ongoing memorials to help us heal, unite and move forward.”
As Terri’s infamous Dad, Spider Robinson, wrote when he shared Reimagine’s invitation—
“What a smart and noble and important thing for Biden and Harris to begin their administration with, and about damn time. When a nation loses nearly half a million of its most experienced and wise, that is a spiritual event, which needs to be dealt with as such. The first step is to share it.I know where I’ll be Tuesday at 1:30 PM Pacific Time, 4:30 PM Eastern Time. In front of Jeanne’s Buddha, sitting zazen on my zafu with her for the first time in way too long, my laptop in front of us. Hope to feel you there.”—Spider
